Star Wars: Ewoks - Shadows Of Endor

(Art by Zack Giallongo & Braden Lamb)

Set shortly before 'Return of the Jedi' (after the Ewoks cartoon and its accompanying comic books but before the live-action Ewoks movies) this books tells the story of how the Ewoks and their old enemies the Duloks have to join forces against a fearsome new threat on the Forest Moon of Endor: the Galactic Empire.

It took me a long time to be able to admit it publicly, but I like the Ewoks.  I know that's not a popular view among cynical 30-something Star Wars fans (like my friends and I), but it's true.  I like them in 'Return of the Jedi', I liked the cheesy low-budget TV movies and I liked the cartoon.  This then turned out to be the Ewoks book that I'd always wanted without realising it, tying together all of the various Ewok stories whilst telling an entertaining one of its own.  Among the highlights are Logray battling a Nightsister of Dathomir, Paploo eyeing-up a speeder bike (he's the one who joyrides one in Episode VI), Duloks versus Stormtroopers and a brilliant little epilogue in which Wicket find a strange woman lying unconscious in the forest.

If you don't like the Ewoks then I'm afraid this definitely won't be the book for you.  But how could you not like cute little teddy bears who fly gliders, fight Stormtroopers and, in the movie, attempt to eat Han, Luke and Chewbacca?
